Vision and on arts and creativity

Vision

In the partnership, we believe it is important for young people to be exposed to these values to be well equipped for the challenges we are facing today and, in the future, living in an era of climate crisis. We want to promote ‘acceptance of diversity and tolerance in society’ and ‘strengthen young people’s sense of initiative’ through YINT and its focus on inclusion and creativity, to be able to reach broader segments of the youth population and empower youth to make sustainable lifestyle choices and to actively shape their lives, their communities, and society according to life-enhancing values like tolerance, solidarity, and integrity. The project therefore relates to the European Youth Goal ‘Sustainable Green Europe’, in that it seeks to promote sustainable lifestyle choices and engagement among young people to ‘achieve a society in which all young people are environmentally active, educated and able to make a difference in their everyday lives”.

On arts and creativity

Generally, we think of learning about the environment and climate issues as highly or somewhat academic topics, which in turn makes them quite inaccessible for many people, especially underprivileged youth. In ESD pedagogy and didactics, arts and creativity have a special place as an entrance to general competencies like empathy, systems thinking, coping with ethical dilemmas, social and internal resilience, and imagining better futures for oneself and the world. Therefore this project will explore the use of art and creativity further and broader in ESD (as a pedagogical methodology) and use creativity and artistic expression as a way to reach, engage and connect more young people - to each other, to society and to the issues of sustainability and environmental justice.
